About the Artist
Jennifer Annesley, B.F.A.,
C.S.P.W.C.
Jennifer Annesley is a full time artist who
grew up in Edmonton and attended the University
of Alberta from 1985 and 1989, graduating with
a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art and Design.
Jennifer exhibited her work with various commercial
galleries in Edmonton, Kamloops, and Vancouver
until 1994, when the opportunity to do a sponsored
solo exhibition arose. The one-night exhibition
was a great success and has become an annual
and independent event. These exhibitions have
continued to grow and receive much local, national
and international attention, and have established
a reputation as a unique opportunity not to
be missed by art lovers. They provide unparalleled
exposure of her paintings to the Edmonton audience.
Also in 1994, Jennifer started to exhibit her
work with Virginia Christopher Fine Art in Calgary,
and has since had exclusive representation with
the gallery.
Annesley’s paintings have captured international
attention and are included in corporate, private
and public collections. Her architectural interiors,
landscapes and still lifes are recognized for
their realism, intensity of colour and dramatic
sense of light. The artist has a powerful command
of the watercolour and charcoal mediums, enabling
her to achieve a striking sense of time and
place. Her time-intensive process allows her
to create approximately fifteen major paintings
each year.
“The essence of my work lies
in expressing a vivid sense of place, time and
atmosphere. A fascination with the effects of
unusual light and the seductive balance of elegance
and power, a love of the natural world and passion
for the art and architecture of past centuries
have been major influences on my subject matter
and aesthetic.”
Jennifer’s love of architecture extends
to her studio and home. She lives in Edmonton
with her husband in a 1912 house they renovated
which includes an art studio and gallery for
Jennifer’s paintings. Her other interests
include backpacking, skiing, canoeing, travel,
clothing design and music.
